Beau Ances, MSc, MD, PhD is the inaugural Daniel J Brennan MD Professor of Neurology at Washington University in Saint Louis and Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs in the Department. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania (1989); completed a masters in Health Planning and Finance at London School of Economics (1994); completed his Ph.D. and M.D. (2001) at the University of Pennsylvania; and completed Neurology residency (2005) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He pursued a post-doctoral fellowship in Neuroimmunology at the University of California San Diego (2005-2008). He moved to Washington University in St. Louis (2008). His laboratory has focused on developing novel methods to assess changes in brain due to neurodegenerative diseases, especially the role of neuroimaging and biofluids. For the past several years his laboratory has focused on genetic forms of Alzheimer disease (AD), specifically Down syndrome Alzheimer disease (DSAD). His laboratory has led groundbreaking research comparing different genetic forms of AD. More recently his team has conducted some of the first ant-amyloid studies in Down syndrome. He has served on numerous NIH and private foundation study sections. Dr. Ances is an author on over 600 publications, has an h-index of 88, and his work has been cited by numerous media outlets (including the Associated Press, US News and World Report, Time, Discover, Washington Post, LA Times) and been featured in a PBS documentary. He mentors undergraduate students, graduate students, post- doctoral candidates, and fellows. Clinically, Dr. Ances has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Saint Louis Magazine and sees patients with Down syndrome both locally and nationally.
